How we calculate

Milieu Centraal advises: do not choose a home battery too big, it should cover your evening and night use. You read that use in the app of your P1 meter or smart meter: what you use between sunset and sunrise. According to Milieu Centraal an average home battery stores about 6 kWh.

We put your use in one of four sizes: up to 3 kWh, 3 to 6, 6 to 10 and from 10 kWh. Below are the batteries of that size at today's lowest price. We read the capacity from the product name; batteries without a known capacity are left out. Makers state the total capacity, the usable part is a little smaller.

In winter solar panels barely charge a battery: with 10 panels you generate about 2.5 kWh on an average December day. And Milieu Centraal writes that you will most likely not earn a home battery back at the moment. A bigger battery is not better by itself.
